Shortly after the story begins, the Red Suns, a highly experienced racing team from Mount Akagi led by Ryosuke Takahashi, challenge the local Speed Stars team to a set of races on Mount Akina. Dispirited after watching the Red Suns' superior performance during a practice run, the Speed Stars expect to lose. Later that night, the Red Suns' #2 driver, Keisuke Takahashi, heading home after the last practice run, is defeated soundly by a mysterious Sprinter Trueno, despite driving a much more powerful Mazda RX-7 (FD3S). An investigation into the identity of the driver leads to Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi's father. While trying to do his best for the team on Mount Akina, Iketani suffers a crash and damages his car and injures himself. He is unable to take part in the race to represent his team. Iketani begs Bunta to help the Speed Stars defeat the Red Suns, and he initially refuses, later relenting to "maybe" show up at the race. At the same time, Takumi asks Bunta if he can borrow the car for a day to take a trip to the beach with a potential girlfriend (Natsuki Mogi), and Bunta seizes the moment by granting permission (plus a full tank of fuel) on the condition that Takumi defeats Keisuke. On the night of the race, the Trueno does not show up, and the Speed Stars enlist a backup driver (Kenji) for the first run. At the last moment before the race starts, the AE86 arrives. Takumi steps out of the car to the bewilderment of the Speed Stars, who were expecting Bunta. He easily defeats Keisuke by utilizing a dangerous "gutter run" technique (putting both the left/right tires into the gutters to prevent centrifugal force pushing the car outward) on the mountain road's hairpin corners.
In 1998, Initial D was adapted into an animated television series produced by OB Planning and Prime Direction. The first episode premièred on Fuji TV on April 8, 1998. The initial series ran for 26 weekly episodes with the finale airing on December 5, 1998.
While Takumi's Eight-Six is being repaired, Takumi and Itsuki head to Sadamine and run into a pair of Project D impostors. Takumi initially thinks nothing of it but changes his mind when he is slapped by Mika Uehara, whose friend Tomoko had been rudely dumped by Takumi's impersonator. The members of Project D confront the impostors, and get them to apologise to those that they have hurt. Takumi and Mika meet up again, and start seeing each other regularly.
The initial was first pointed out in Oda's SBS questions and answers corner, when he was asked what the D. in Luffy's name stood for. Oda just replied to read it as a D. for now and that he would reveal the truth behind it in time.[1] This was the first time the D. in Luffy's name was brought up, as well as Oda's first hint toward a bigger mystery.
One clue about those who carry the "D." was left by Jaguar D. Saul, who specifically said that, while he did not know the meaning of the initial, he did know everyone in his family carried it in their names.[7] This implies that the "D." is passed down between generations. So far, it seems that all characters with the "D." may indeed be related to each other, if not by blood, then at least by fate.[8] An example of the hereditary nature of "D." can be seen in the Monkey family, consisting of Monkey D. Luffy, his biological father Monkey D. Dragon, and his grandfather Monkey D. Garp.[9] This, however, does not necessarily imply that all "D."-bearers are closely related; some of the "D."-bearers have had children together, as seen with Portgas D. Rouge and Gol D. Roger, and some of the "D."-bearers are giants.
It is not clear what the significance of the shared initial is, but it appears that all share a deep desire for freedom and have strong faith in their own (and others') dreams and/or destiny. When a "D." appears, the general consensus is that they are going to stir things up on a global scale, for better or worse. Examples of world-shaking events instigated by "D."s include wars, changes in government, and the dawn of a new era. The Will of D. could be seen as an example of the broader concept of Inherited Will.
The biggest mystery of "D." is that most of those who carry the "D." are themselves unaware of its true meaning. Jaguar D. Saul displayed a lack of knowledge on the subject when Nico Robin asked him what it meant.[16] Similarly, when she asked Monkey D. Luffy why those that carry the "D." fight, he was completely clueless as to what she was talking about.[3] However, it seems that the Marines have some awareness of the initial's significance, as Sengoku showed interest in Ace because of it.[17] When Sengoku is explicitly asked by Law if he knows about the meaning of the "D.", he gives a vague answer, but he seems shocked to find out that Law also carries the initial and he thinks about the checkered fate of the "D." carriers.[18]
Trafalgar Law's parents also seemed to have some knowledge about what "D." meant, considering that although they passed down the initial to their child, they hid it and insisted on using only their surname and given names.[6] Gol D. Roger is the first and, as of yet, only known "D."-bearer in the storyline to have discovered its meaning.[19]
Initial D is about the touge racing exploits of Takumi Fujiwara, whose extraordinary driving and drifting skills were honed by delivering tofu in a 1983 Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno 3-door GT-APEX hatchback (owned and initially tuned by Takumi's father Bunta). The 150-hp AE86 Trueno managed to defeat more powerful tuned cars such as Mazda RX-7 Type R (FD3S), Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (BNR32) and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV RS (CN9A).
If you've ever wanted to dive into the world of Initial D - here's your chance. Ikaho Onsen is a small onsen town in Shibukawa City, Gunma. Ikaho is at the base of Mt. Haruna, and the two serve as the primary setting for Initial D. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the anime, Shibukawa commissioned a set of seven manhole covers. If this is sounding completely unfamiliar to you, that's okay. Here's a quick rundown of Initial D: It's a street racing anime that originally aired in 1998, and was based on a manga of the same name. It's focused around a student, Fujiwara Takumi, who works at a gas station with some friends. Street racing is a big deal to them, and there are professional street racing teams in the area that they dream of joining, Except, unbeknown to his friends, Takumi helps his dad deliver tofu from the family shop to the resort town on top of the nearby mountain (Mt. Haruna) everyday. He (with his dad's trusty Toyota Sprinter Trueno) is actually an extremely skilled racer, and spends the rest of the show being challenged by other racers and growing to be an even better driver himself. The covers each feature characters and scenes from the anime. Five of the covers are within the main area of Ikaho Onsen, one is outside of Shibukawa Station, and one is on the road heading up Mt. Haruna. If you want to come and take a tour of the manhole covers, be sure to bring your walking shoes and a towel (always bring a towel!). Ikaho Onsen is centered around 365 stone steps, which you will need to climb to see all the covers. Luckily, you can stop to enjoy the foot bath or town onsen on the way up. [photo id='221376'] There is also a digital stamp rally running until July 31st, 2021. You can check in at the location of each manhole cover by using the 舞台めぐり app. You can also use the app to take pictures with Initial D characters and cars using AR stickers. Don't worry about not being able to find all the covers - their locations are marked once you join the app's Initial D mission. Check out the website for more information on the stamp rally, and more Initial D highlights around Shibukawa and Gunma (website is in Japanese). Once you've visited all the manhole covers, stop by the tourism center on the bottom floor of the Ikaho Ropeway station to get a reward. If you're still in the mood for more Initial D, visit the Ikaho Toy and Car Museum to see a recreation of the Fujiwara Tofu Shop. You can also pick up a set of collectible Initial D stamps at Gunma post offices. ","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","@context":"http://schema.org","url":"https://en.japantravel.com/","name":"Japan Travel","logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","@context":"http://schema.org","name":"Japan Travel","url":"https://en.japantravel.com/images/logo_v2.jpg"}},"url":"/gunma/ikaho-s-initial-d-manhole-covers/66108","wordCount":464,"mainEntityOfPage":{"@type":"WebPage","@context":"http://schema.org","@id":"https://en.japantravel.com/"},"inLanguage":"en","dateModified":"2021-09-11T11:25:59+09:00"}if (!$.cookie("accepted_cookies")) { var GDPRNotice = $('\\ \\ \\ We use cookies to optimize your experience.
